Finding my way back to stitching

Finding my way back to stitching

If you’ve visited Wee Stitches recently, you may have noticed things have been a little quiet.

The truth is, life looked very different for me over the last year.

In 2025, I lost my dad unexpectedly. He wasn’t just my dad; he was my best friend. Like many people who experience grief, I found myself caught in a cycle I couldn’t seem to break. I knew stitching had always been one of the things that helped my mental health. It had been my creative outlet, my safe place, and often the thing that helped me slow down when life felt overwhelming.

But grief doesn’t always make sense.

I wanted to stitch because I knew it would help, yet I often felt too exhausted, too sad, or simply too unmotivated to pick up a needle and start. Days became weeks, weeks became months, and before I knew it, Wee Stitches had taken an unexpected pause alongside me.

For a long time I felt guilty about that.

I felt guilty for not creating. Guilty for not posting on social media. Guilty for leaving seasonal designs on the website long after the season had passed. Guilty for putting my dream on hold.

But I’ve come to realise that sometimes surviving is enough.

Grief doesn’t run on a schedule, and healing isn’t something that can be rushed.

Over the last few months I’ve started to feel that spark returning. Not every day, and not all at once, but little by little. I’ve found myself sketching ideas again, thinking about new patterns, planning projects, and feeling excited about the future of Wee Stitches.

So this blog marks a fresh start.

Each week I’ll be sharing a little update from my stitching corner of the world. Some weeks that might be a work-in-progress project, a new pattern idea, a behind-the-scenes look at designing, or simply a chat about creativity, motivation, and life as a stitcher.

Most importantly, it will be a place to document the journey. Because despite the difficult year I’ve had, one thing hasn’t changed: my dream.

I am more determined than ever to become a full-time cross stitch designer.

Wee Stitches started as a creative hobby, but it has always been something bigger in my heart. I want to create patterns that make people smile, build a community of stitchers who love modern and fun designs, and eventually turn this little business into my full-time career.

Will it happen overnight? Probably not.
Will there be challenges along the way? Definitely.

But for the first time in a long while, I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.

Thank you for sticking around while I found my footing again. Whether you’ve been here from the beginning or you’ve only just discovered Wee Stitches, I’m so grateful you’re here.

Here’s to new beginnings, fresh projects, and finding joy in every stitch.

See you next week.
